Lord, how glad we are that we don't hold You, but that You hold us.

Providence-Haiti Outreach traces its beginning to a visit to Haiti in 1987 by Rev. Francis J. Giudice, rector of Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Providence, Rhode Island.   Father was overwhelmed by the abject poverty and inspired by the the devoted missionaries he met to be a voice for those whose voices have been silenced. He began leading regular retreats to Haiti with like-minded Rhode Islanders, determined to make a difference. Soon after The Providence-Haiti Outreach was born with a mission to "help the needy and poor of Haiti".

Two years later, Father Giudice's friendship with Father Serge Pardo of Marigot, Haiti eventually led to the builiding of the Pezzelli Memorial School and Home, named for the generous benefactor who had made many retreats with Father.
Under the capable leadership of Father Pardo, the project was completed in 1996 and the Pezzelli Memorial School and Home was opened with 50 grammar school students.  Today the school educates and feeds over 350 students each day, from pre-K to 6th grade.  Dedicated teachers can boast that the children score highly on the national exams with many now going on to further education.  More important is the faith element of their education that forms the children as followers of Christ.

Letter written to Susan (Pezzelli) Whipple
by Father Giudice

What a wealth of joy I felt in my heart for these kids, who – if they didn’t have this place – would simply grow up without any education and perhaps undernourished as well.  I looked up toward Heaven and tipped my hat to your dad for inspiration and support of this project…..
